Stop Calling Him Jackie Chan, see his Real Name

 

Perhaps you knew him as Jackie Chan all your life, but this isn’t his real name. The legend is a martial artist, dancer, film director , producer, stuntman, and also a rapper, and is known professionally as Jackie Chan. His accrobatic style of combat, comic timing, improvised use of weapons and innovative stunts are known to him. He specialized in Wushu or Kung Fu, and since his acting career in the 1960s Hapkido has starred in over 150 films.

He is one of the most recognizable and influential figures worldwide, while receiving stars on the Hong Kong Stars Avenue and Hollywood Walk of Fame in both the Eastern and Western Hemisphere. In numerous pop music, cartoons and video games he has been listed. He is also a skilled vocalist with operatic training, Cantopop and Mandopop, who has released several albums and sang several theme songs for the films that he starred in.

He is a world-famous philanthropist, one of Forbes magazine ‘s 10 most charitable celebrities. Film academic Andrew Willis said that in 2004 Chan was “maybe” the “most recognized star in the world.” In 2015, Forbes measured the net worth to be $350 million, and by 2016 he was the world’s second highest paying star.

He was born in Hong Kong on April 7, 1954, when he sang as chan kong to the Chinese civil war refugee Charles and Lee-Lee Chan parents. His parents called him Pao-pao (meaning “Cannonball”), as the vigorous child was always rolling around. His parents worked in Hong Kong for the Ambassador, and Chan spent his formative years in the Victoria Peak District area of the Consul.

His acting career started with his role as a child actor at the age of 5. He appeared at age eight in the film Big and Little Wong Tin Bar (1962) with some of his fellow “Little Fortunes” and Li Li-Hua played with his mother. He was included in The Love Eterne in 1963 and played a minor part in King Hu’s Come Drink with Me in 1966.

In 1971, Chan joined Chu Mu ‘s Great Earth Film Company following an additional film in A Touch of Zen. At 17, he worked as a stuntman in the films of Bruce Lee Fist of Fury and Entering the Dragon, named Chan Yuen Lung, under the stage name. Later that year in Canton Little Tiger, which was released in Hong Kong in 1973, he was first to become a star.
